"Ray Charles Joins Paul McCartney and Billy Joel On Charity Album"
By: Sue Falco
(December 20th, 2000)

Ray Charles has joined the all-star lineup of musicians contributing tracks to "Music of Hope," the upcoming classical album that benefits the American Cancer Society. He performs the classic "Amazing Grace" with the London Symphony Orchestra, recorded at his home studio in Los Angeles on December 12th, 2000.

Billy Joel and Paul McCartney are also major contributors to the project, along with Andre Previn, Kurt Masur, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. "Music of Hope" marks the debut of Joel's first classical composition*, "Elegy: The Great Peconic," and the orchestral premiere of McCartney's "Nova," a choral
version of which was included on his own classical album "A Garland For Linda." Both McCartney and Joel recorded their contributions with the London Symphony Orchestra at the famed Abbey Road Studios in London.

"Music of Hope" is due out February 13th, 2001 with 100 percent of all artist royalties and record company profits donated to the American Cancer Society.

*Billy Joel has previously had his first classical composition, "Fantasy (Film Noir)" [performed by Hyung-Ki Joo] released in June, 2000.
