"Billy Joel's Wife Turned Away From Diddy Party"
(September 3rd, 2007)

Billy Joel's wife Katie Lee Joel was turned away from Sean Combs' annual "White Party" on September 2nd, 2007, because she was dressed in cream. The hip-hop mogul had a strict white dress code at the end-of-summer bash at his Long Island, New York, mansion and made sure his bouncers enforced the fashion rules. Combs entertained hundreds of people, including Mariah Carey, Busta Rhymes, Donna Karan, Tommy Lee, and Ashley Olsen. Joel's wife Lee turned up dressed in cream, but was told to go home and change. Combs attended his bash dressed in a white shirt and trousers and white sneakers.

"Hamptons Diary"
By: Marianne Garvey
(September 3rd, 2007)

Guests at Bon Jovi's Labor Day party were screaming and cheering when an impromptu band made up of Billy Joel on piano, Jimmy Buffett on guitar and Jon Bon Jovi, Paul McCartney, and Pink Floyd great Roger Waters on vocals took the stage.

The rock legends played Bon Jovi and Beatles tunes, along with many of Billy's own songs.

But the highlight of the spur-of-the-moment concert was when Jersey Governor Jon Corzine took to the dance floor with girlfriend Sharon Elghanayan and did the Lindy.

"It was unbelievable, " said one guest. "He almost died and he was out there doing the Lindy. Everybody went nuts."

It's too bad Bruce Springsteen, who was there, had to leave early.

"Jon Bon Jovi's Star-Filled Hamptons Party Is A Rock & Roll Ball of Fame"
By: George Rush
(September 3rd, 2007)

A little Hamptons dinner party turned into a summit of the rock gods Saturday night.

Jon Bon Jovi and his wife, Dorothea, were celebrating nothing more than the end of summer when they invited some friends over to their East Hampton spread. But then their friends do include Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffett, and Pink Floyd's Roger Waters.

The surf-and-turf dinner would have been enough for a crowd that included Renee Zellwegger, Naomi Watts, Howard Stern, "Today" anchor Matt Lauer, designer Donna Karan, New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner and "Saturday Night Live" producer Lorne Michaels.

But, about 11:00pm, Bon Jovi jumped onstage to join the party band. Pretty soon, people were dancing.

Before long, McCartney joined Bon Jovi at the mike - along with Joel, Buffett and Waters.

"Billy was wailing on the keyboards," said one guest. "They performed for a good hour of rock classics. Nobody could believe it. Howard Stern was really rocking out."

Though New Jersey boy Springsteen had left before the jam, Corzine seemed pleased when Bon Jovi belted out "Who Says You Can't Go Home," the theme song of the New Jersey Tourist Board.

"The governor led people on to the dance floor," said the guest.

"The whole thing was spontaneous. It was the first Hamptons party in years that was actually fun."

"Two Big Honors For Billy Joel"
By: Glenn Gamboa
(September 11th, 2007)

Start planning, Billy Joel fans. The "Piano Man" is now set for two major honors that show not just the depth of his talent, but the breadth of his appeal.

The Long Island Philharmonic confirmed Tuesday that it will honor Joel at its 30th annual gala as a longtime supporter of the orchestra and his advocacy of music education. Joel is also set to be the final performer at Shea Stadium, doing a string of concerts at the stadium, which is set for demolition after the 2008 Mets season, sources confirmed Monday.

"I am honored and delighted to be recognized by the Philharmonic," Joel said in a statement. "We share a common vision that music and the arts belong at the center of life. Without music education and appreciation, our children would grow up missing a vital and fundamental component to their learning experiences, something we all need to be complete human beings."

No date has been set for the gala, which will be part of the Philharmonic's 30th anniversary celebration in 2009.

"Honoring Billy Joel in the Philharmonic's 30th Anniversary Season is both fitting and appropriate," Larry Austin, the Philharmonic's chairman said in a statement. "Like our founder, Harry Chapin, Billy has demonstrated that he really cares about the future of Long Island. He grew up here, he lives here and he gives back to the community the successes he has earned. He is truly a role model that Islanders can look up to."

No dates are set for Joel's Shea Stadium run either. (Obviously, the Mets' playoff fortunes next year could factor into that.) Joel has already played Yankee Stadium and captured that in the concert film "Live at Yankee Stadium" in 1990, but never Shea.

The number of shows is also not set, though considering Joel holds the record for his 12 sold-out shows in a single run at Madison Square Garden, making him the first musician to ever have his "number" hang there, his run could last a while.

"Orchestra's Overture To Billy Joel"
By: Michael Klein
(September 23rd, 2007)

This high-society engagement seems right out of the song "Uptown Girl": Billy Joel will headline the Philadelphia Orchestra's 151st Academy Concert on January 26th, 2008 at the Academy of Music.

Sharp-eyed orchestragoers may have spotted a Joel notice in Thursday night's concert program, and The Inquirer's Peter Dobrin noted it in "ArtsWatch," his blog.

This will not be a mere Billy Joel concert, though. The Philadelphians, under Christoph Eschenbach, will world-premiere one of Joel's classical compositions, and he is expected to play from his rock oeuvre, as well. Joel first showed his classical side on the 2001 album "Fantasies & Delusions," though he chose pianist Richard Joo to perform his work.

Organizers had been after Joel for some time, but timing was the rub, Academy president Jody Lewis said. Academy director Linda Scribner said Joel "crosses over both worlds - and that really showcases what goes on at the Academy these days."

Joel, 58, was a semi-regular at the Academy three decades ago before he hit the arena circuit.

A portion of the proceeds will endow a Joel education fund for classical musicians, which the orchestra is setting up at his behest.

The evening's host will be TV journalist Chris Matthews, and the bill includes Icelandic soprano Disella Larusdottir, 13 year-old piano virtuoso Conrad Tao, and Blue Man Group (whom I cannot wait to see in tails). Invitations are not out yet.

"'Piano Man' Comes To Bay Area"
Billy Joel Sets November 10th, 2007 Date at Oracle Arena In Oakland

By: Jim Harrington
(September 26th, 2007)

Sing us a song, Mr. "Piano Man." In fact, sing us two-hours-plus of some of the best-loved tunes in the pop-rock library. The latter is what fans should expect when singer-songwriter-pianist Billy Joel comes to town to play the Oracle Arena in Oakland on November 10th, 2007.

The 58 year-old Joel - a New York rock legend who was inducted the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 - is known for such top 10 hit singles as "Just The Way You Are,'' "My Life,'' "It's Still Rock and Roll To Me,'' "Tell Her About It'' and "We Didn't Start The Fire.'' He comes to town in support of "12 Gardens Live,'' which documents the performer's record-setting, sold-out 12-night run at New York City's Madison Square Garden in early 2006.

Besides hearing the old hits, fans who attend the Oakland date are likely to get "All My Life'' - Joel's first new pop composition since 1993's "River of Dreams.'' That single is currently available at record stores and through download services.

"Memo On Billy Joel Tickets Upsets Customers"
Sprint Employees Can Buy 8 Tickets Each

(September 26th, 2007)

Many residents are asking if you have to be connected to get a good seat at the Sprint Center.

Last week, customers were upset when a Hannah Montana concert at the new arena sold out within minutes. In August, an Elton John concert sold-out in about an hour.

Now, it looks as if there will be a ticket controversy over an upcoming Billy Joel concert.

KMBC's Jim Flink reported that a memo sent to Sprint employees last week is causing the most recent uproar. The memo offered employees a chance to buy up to eight tickets each before the public could get them.

Billy Joel tickets go on sale Saturday for the December 6th, 2007 concert.

"I'm shocked. Something is awry, and we need to figure it out," City Councilman Bill Skaggs said.

A representative of Sprint said this is nothing unusual and that the concert promoter set up the pre-sale plan, which is a one-time only deal.

The pre-sale tickets are capped at 10 percent of total available seats, which is about 1,500 tickets.

In other potential pre-sales to Founders Club members, the number is, at most, 18 percent of all seats before the public can buy them.

"I thought that we built the Sprint Center so that the public can buy tickets," Skaggs said.

"It's not fair," resident Robin Broderick said.

"Doesn't sound too good at all," resident Roy Johnson said.

"It's just not a fair chance for everybody. We all live in Kansas City, and we all want to check out the Sprint Center," said Michelle, who didn't want her last name used.

Sprint Center officials said it has only announced 40 percent of the concerts it has booked and that there are lots of tickets available for other the concerts.

The first performance at the Sprint Center will be Elton John on October 13th, 2007.
