"Dumped Again! Piano Man's Romance Hits A Sour Note"
By: Steve Herz
(September 5th, 2000)

Billy Joel was dumped by the gal he tried to transform into a fashion plate when he failed to deliver the one accessory she wanted most - a wedding ring, says a source.

The end of their six-month romance came right after they returned from a romantic trip to Italy, sources tell GLOBE.

Although the "Piano Man" and his ex-girlfriend, TV newsgal Trish Bergin, deny it, insiders insist that she gave him an ultimatum.

"The trip should have been a lover's dream, but everything soured when Billy failed to propose," said the source.

"Trish wanted a commitment and he wasn't ready to do that."

When Billy, 51, didn't pop the question, Trish freaked out, the insider said.

"She asked, 'What's going on? Where is this relationship going?'" reveals the source. "But Billy didn't get it. He told
her 'Why? Things are fine the way they are.'"

"Trish was upset and gave him an ultimatum on the spot: 'She told him if we're not getting married or engaged, she's outta here!'"

"But Billy flat-out told her 'no.' That's what's behind their breakup. Poor Billy is really upset. First, he gets dumped by artist Carolyn Beegan. Now, Trish."

Ironically, the superstar was introduced to 29 year-old Trish by his ex-wife Christie Brinkley. As GLOBE reported in June, Billy hired fashion consultants and designers to give her a head-to-toe makeover in his own real-life version of "My Fair Lady."

"Things were going great between them...up until this trip," says the source. "But when they got back, it was all over."

"Billy Joel Coming Back? Perhaps, But Not Yet"
By: Jennifer L. Henn
(September 7th, 2000)

He's been gone from the South Fork but a few months, but Billy Joel soon may be back. A spokeswoman for the rock-and-roll-legend-turned-classical-composer confirmed on Tuesday that the former Amagansett resident is shopping for a new house in North Sea.

Jane Arginteanu, who manages Maritime Music, Mr. Joel's Southampton-based office, said this week that reports last week in the New York Post and on the iHamptons.com website that her boss had purchased, or was about to purchase, a more than 30-acre estate in North Sea called "Marshlands" were false.

"But he is interested and has viewed some properties in that area," she said. "For reasons of privacy and security, he does not wish to comment further at this time."

This spring, Mr. Joel sold his 10.5-acre oceanfront estate off Further Lane in Amagansett for about $35 million to comedian Jerry Seinfeld. It was rumored that Mr. Joel wanted to return to Oyster Bay in Nassau County, where he grew up.

Jeff Payne, a real estate agent with Allan M. Schneider, the brokerage that has the exclusive listing on Marshlands, declined to comment on Mr. Joel's interest in the property.

Wildly imaginative face masks-perfect for wall displays-decorated by a host of celebrities and artists will be auctioned at a gala event presented by The Mall at the Source, Westbury, on October 15th, 2000. Personalities such as Ed Koch, Billy Joel, Katie Couric and Barry Goldberg have painted their fantasies on signed ceramic masks, each an original work, for the benefit of Long Island Hospice Organizations.
