"Billy Joel's Daughter Blames Suicide Attempt On Break-Up"
Alexa Ray Joel Denying Reports Her Mother, Christie Brinkley, Drove Her To Swallow Multiple Pills

(January 4th, 2010)

Alexa Ray Joel, Billy Joel's daughter with Christie Brinkley, has denied reports that nasty remarks by her mother drove her to attempt suicide.

In her most detailed comments to date about her December suicide scare, Alexa, 24, thanked fans for their support and defended Brinkley.

"The press was particularly harsh on my mother, which is unthinkable to me, because she is the kindest woman I've ever known," she wrote on her Facebook page, New Year's Eve.

She also hinted at the true cause, a breakup with bandmate Jimmy Riot, by saying she will talk more about "heartbreak-related depression."
